Tiny Time Travels: California Science Center in Los Angeles, CA

California Science Center – 700 Exposition Park Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90037

Admission: FREE

Are you looking for something interesting, affordable, and fun to do with your family while visiting (or living) in Los Angeles, California?

We have a great pick for you today!

While cruising around LA during our trip to visit family living there, we searched for some family friendly activities to do with the girls that were relatively affordable. Thankfully, we found something that we all loved – California Science Center! It’s located in Exposition Park, which hosts the National History Museum of Los Angeles, California African American Museum, and LA Memorial Coliseum. Talk about tons of opportunities in ONE SPOT!

We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this science center. One thing I love about California Science Center is that general admission is absolutely FREE! They are open daily from 10am-5pm PST. Also, it’s apart of the ASTC reciprocal program which allows you to visit associated science centers and museums for free when you opt for their annual membership . As with our hometown science center in St. Louis – since it’s already free to go to the science center, they offer other incentives for being a part of the ASTC program. One thing I want to mention is that you do have to pay for parking at the California Science Center.

The museum had so many different rooms to explore from the fun tech room and aquarium to the interactive weather room. Also, you could checkout the Hollywood sign right from the museum! The girls learned a lot were able to explore a good portion of the science center in the 2 hours we were there.

They also have great exhibits that generally change seasonally which have a fee (along with their IMAX). Depending on how crowded it is, I’ve read that it generally takes 1.5-2 hours to explore the exhibit. It also may take longer if you want to take time to read all of the information on the walls and the artifacts – which can be great for homeschoolers! You can find so many awesome topics to do projects or reports on. If you’re a local and homeschool your children, I recently found out that the California Science Center offers a great homeschool program that could potentially be incorporated in your homeschool lessons. You can find more about their homeschool program here!

Overall, my family really enjoyed our first visit and plan to go back again when we’re in town!
