Burton Barr Central Library – 21 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004
Let me start by saying that I’ve never been to a library like this before! I mean this place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! In 2018, the library was closed due to water damage from a bad storm that came through Phoenix and although I kept hearing that we had a library downtown, I didn’t know where it was located.
I didn’t expect this huge copper building to be a library at first glance. Once I stepped inside of this beautiful place on their reopening day, I was blown away at how it looked on the inside. I later found out that Burton Barr Library is
The kid’s library on the first floor itself was bigger than the library I’d grown up with across the street from me. It is like a mini children’s museum within the library with all of the activities you can do. If you have older children, they also offer a huge teen room complete with a gaming station and a soundproof music room (they also rent out instruments with your library card). Not only do they have fun things for the children of all ages to do, but they also have pretty awesome children’s classes and today, I’m going to share what all they offer.
They offer a plethora of interactive classes from Preschool Prep and Bilingual Storytime to a programming class called Little Bytes that teaches children as young as 4 years old how to code! We did almost all of the classes they offered and the girls always had a blast whenever we would visit! You can find a list of all of the classes the Phoenix Public Libraries offer here. If you want to see which classes are listed at Burton Barr specifically, then you can select that library. Otherwise, if you’re in the Phoenix area, you can search for a class offered at your nearest library.
We’ve been attending the classes at Burton Barr for a while and although at first, my girls were nervous to be in a classroom setting like this, a few weeks later, they were in love. They came to enjoy the other kids, the robot songs, and activities. We go here at least once a week simply for the coding class and storytime. I love that parents can join along as it allows me to see what the girls are learning and how these lessons apply to their everyday lives.
We love this library and definitely recommend visiting if you’ve never been before!
